Toddlers seem to never want to do it and teenagers can’t seem to get enough of it.  We’re talking SLEEP.  We know that sleep plays an important role for our overall health and wellness.  We certainly know how we feel when we don’t get enough of it.  Sleep is a BIG deal, and it’s an even bigger deal for athletes.

Depending on the weight of a dancer and the genre of dance they are training in and for how long, dancers are burning some major calories!  200-1000 plus potentially.  Let’s just all agree that basically, dancers use a tremendous amount of energy.  It’s why they are hungry…it’s why they are tired…it’s why they are some of the best physically fit athletes out there.  It’s also why they need to treat their bodies the same way an accomplished musician cleans and cares for his instrument.

The National Sleep Foundation says, “Many of the world’s greatest athletes eat, sleep, breathe, and live for their sport. But did you know that in addition to physical conditioning and conscious eating, sleep plays a major role in athletic performance and competitive results?”  Dancing “depletes energy, fluids, and breaks down muscle. Hydration and the right fuel are only part of training and recovery.”

L2D dancers, we’re just making a plea…care for the facilities that make you beautiful dancers and get the rest you need.  Not just well trained dancers, we know you are disciplined students, accomplished gymnasts, musicians, play other sports, and so many more wide and varied interests and hobbies that you excel at.  We cheer you on and are excited to see all the places you each go.  However, do us, no…do yourself a favor…get some SLEEP!
